This guide shows how to upload components (parts) and sub-components (sub-parts) via Excel files in the Prduct platform. The process is similar to uploading products, but there are some important differences you need to be aware of.

There is two example Excel-files at the bottom of this article.

1. Select the file you want to upload

In the first step, you choose the file you want to upload. You need to make two uploads – one upload for your components and one upload for your sub-components.

See Screenshot 1

2. Link data

In the next step, you choose how the components should be linked to your products. This is done via the product’s ID. First, you select the document type you want to link to, and then the ID type that should be used. (I.e.

See Screenshot 2 and 3

Uploading sub-components works in the same way, but instead of selecting which product ID should be attached, you choose the main component’s ID.

See Screenshot 4

If you upload the same sub-component to several different products and parts at the same time, you must add both the product ID and the main component ID in “Link data”. (E.g. a screw type that is used at both component and product level)

See Screenshot 5

3. Skip “Update documents”

The step “Update documents” must be skipped. Go directly to “Column mapping”.

4. Column mapping

When you reach “Column mapping”, it is important that you map the correct columns in your file so the system can correctly connect components and products.
You must ensure that the column “Material type” is mapped to “Type of component”, as this field is used to bind components to products.
Additionally, the column “Component quantity” must be mapped to “Value of component”, so the system knows how much of each component is used.
When the fields are correctly mapped, click “Submit”, and your components and sub-components will be uploaded.

See Screenshot 6

Note: You can specify the type of your components as one of the following types:

  • Raw_material

  • Processed_material

  • Component

  • Ingredient

This is done by having a column called “Component type”, and for each component row, adding which type it is. If the field is blank or written incorrectly, the component will be assigned the type “Component” by default. The column is mapped to “Component type” during upload.

5. Uploading the same component to multiple products

It is possible to upload the same component to multiple products at once. If your file contains several of the same IDs, the system will automatically show a green bar under “Column mapping”, where you must choose whether the components should be duplicated or only created once.
It is recommended that the components are only created once – they will still be connected to all product IDs listed in your file.

See Screenshot 7

Note: If you upload the same sub-component to several different products and parts at the same time, you must add both the product ID and the main component ID in “Link data”.

See Screenshot 5

6. Connect existing components to multiple products

If you have already uploaded a component but want to connect it to more products, you can do this in two ways:

Upload via “Update documents”
Upload a new file and select “Update documents”. Here, you choose which ID the components should be connected to.

See Screenshot 8 and 9

Add the component directly from the product list
You can also manually connect existing components. Go to your product list and select the products the component should be attached to via “Attach part”.

See Screenshot 10
